The X‑Files: A reboot with the right tone

The project is being developed by Ryan Coogler (known for Black Panther and Sinners), with the blessing of Chris Carter. Coogler has already said that he plans to deliver episodes that are "truly scary." The goal is to appeal to long-time fans and a whole new audience.

As a fan of the original series, I must admit that some episodes often felt too disconnected. I loved the mood, the conspiracies, the tension — but at times it lacked a clear narrative thread. Now, with so much material to draw from — videos like Tic Tac, recent UAP sightings, the case of 'Oumuamua, and the Congressional hearings in the U.S. — there’s fertile ground for deeper, more relevant stories.

Gillian Anderson: could she return?

The one and only Scully, Gillian Anderson, has already mentioned in interviews that she’s talked with Coogler — and she would love to return, provided the project brings a fresh and meaningful approach. She even described the director as "a bit of a genius," and left the door open with a simple: “call me.”

Having Scully back could bring exactly the right balance between scientific skepticism and modern conspiracy theories.

Fans: excited but cautious

Across online communities, the response so far has been positive — plenty of enthusiasm for Coogler’s vision. Still, many fans are hoping that Chris Carter won’t be too involved in the storytelling, and that this new version will have more focus — avoiding the missteps seen in some of the later seasons.

And honestly, today’s world is more "X‑Files" than ever:

Governments openly acknowledge the existence of UAPs.

Scientists are still debating the origin of objects like 'Oumuamua.

The public now has instant access to footage and information — creating a whole new type of paranoia and quest for truth.

Why this is the perfect time

The reboot comes at an ideal moment:

U.S. Congressional hearings have brought UFOs/UAPs back into the public spotlight.

Social media fuels an updated conspiracy culture.

Technology makes it harder to hide — and easier to fake — evidence.

Just imagine episodes delving into deepfakes, mass surveillance, digital leaks, and the timeless battle between skepticism and belief. The very essence of The X‑Files, in a world where the truth is just one click — or one algorithm — away.

My hopes for the reboot

I’m genuinely excited. With Ryan Coogler at the helm and today’s rich source material, this reboot could become everything the franchise deserves:

More cohesive episodes.

A darker, more intense tone.

A modern update that reflects our current fears and hopes.

If Scully — and maybe even Mulder — return, even as special appearances, the series could perfectly blend nostalgia with a fresh new edge. And here’s hoping we also get some classic "monster-of-the-week" episodes, but reimagined with the depth that today’s fears and technologies can offer.
